2025-12-19
The BaF Foundation for Architecture, Culture & Art hosted a “High-Rise Timber Structure and Design Salon”, bringing together professionals from architecture, structural engineering, construction, the timber industry, and academia for in-depth, cross-disciplinary discussions.
The event featured presentations by Professor Meng-Ting Tsai of the Department of Architecture at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, U.S.-based structural engineer Run-Wen Chang, and Shuntaro Tanaka and Yusuke Otsubo from MEIKEN LAMWOOD Corp. in Japan.
Speakers guided participants from the current state of timber construction development in Taiwan to high-rise timber technologies and building code perspectives in the United States, Japan, and Europe. In addition, as a member of Chiayi City’s Timber Construction Coaching Team, Architect Hung Yu-Cheng also presented the demonstration design “Vertical Garden City” developed for the “Chiayi House” project, addressing the potential of high-rise timber construction in Taiwan.
This salon deepened understanding of high-rise timber technologies and international regulatory frameworks, while also highlighting the critical role of cross-disciplinary collaboration in advancing timber architecture. The insights and experiences shared during the event laid an important foundation for continued dialogue on the next steps toward high-rise timber construction in Taiwan.
