National Archives Launches Trial Operation

2025-09-02
The new National Archives in Linkou began its trial operation on September 2 and will officially open on November 22. Inspired by the region’s distinctive red earth, the building rises from the ground like layers of sediment, topped with a transparent glass crown that looks toward the future. Surrounded by preserved woodland, the design creates the feeling of a library hidden within a forest.
The archives span 10 floors above ground and 2 below, with a storage capacity of 100 kilometers of records—equivalent to stacking 200 Taipei 101 towers. Inside, visitors will find storage vaults, reading rooms, exhibition halls, and a dedicated archives library.
More than a repository, the National Archives is envisioned as an open learning hub, promoting access, exhibitions, research, and education. Together with the National Library and National Museum, it will stand as one of the three pillars supporting Taiwan’s knowledge system and collective memory.
