Taiwan’s First Sustainability Report by an Architectural Firm|Architecture, Humanity, and Nature
One of the most important roles of contemporary architecture is to interpret the relationship between humans and nature. To us, architecture is part of nature—like rocks, wind, trees, and moss—a humble presence within the landscape.
As architects, we return to a fundamental question: Should humans really be at the center of all design? If we truly believe that humanity is part of a greater ecological web, then architecture should not only serve people but also contribute to the well-being of all members of this web.
This is Bio-architecture Formosana’s first sustainability report. It documents our ongoing journey—ranging from technical practices in energy conservation and carbon reduction, to small-scale actions of social engagement. It’s also our first attempt to systematically reflect on our work, through SROI (Social Return on Investment) analysis.
Although architectural firms are not yet required to publish such reports, as a pioneer in sustainable design, we’ve chosen to take this step forward.
To us, sustainability is not a challenge—it’s a way of life. We hope this report opens up new possibilities for how we imagine the future of architecture and the environment.
