Video | Beautiful Life TV–Architect Lai Po-Wei’s Three Publications

2026-02-24

BaF architect Lai Po-Wei was recently interviewed, discussing his three major publications: Parasitic Temples, The Road to Rebirth, and Ashes to Ashes.

In Parasitic Temples, Lai adopts the meticulous eye of a biologist, carefully documenting aspects of Taiwan’s everyday vernacular life that are gradually disappearing with the passage of time, preserving fragile and ordinary spaces as invaluable cultural records.

The Road to Rebirth shifts the focus to religious and public spaces, further exploring the adaptive reuse of infrastructure and examining how architecture can accommodate transformation and repose through the aesthetics of spaces associated with death.

Meanwhile, Ashes to Ashes offers an in-depth analysis of funerary spaces, seeking to challenge the long-standing taboo surrounding death in Chinese society and to reframe these spaces as sites of spiritual refuge and collective memory.
