Construction | Beitou Library Renovation and Maintenance Program

2026-04-13
The BaF Foundation for Architecture, Culture and Art has recently partnered with Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch to officially launch a building renovation and maintenance program.
The Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch is one of Taiwan’s most iconic public green buildings. It has been selected as one of the world’s 25 most beautiful public libraries and is also the first library in Taiwan to receive EEWH Diamond Certification. With long-term use, certain building components and spatial conditions have gradually required maintenance and enhancement. This renovation project aims to address these needs while preserving the original design intent, improving both the overall spatial quality and user experience.
As the original design team, BaF has reengaged with the building on site, conducting detailed observations and professional assessments of its current condition. Based on this process, we are proposing appropriate maintenance and improvement strategies. The related works have already begun, with scaffolding currently being installed.
Beyond addressing practical maintenance needs, this collaboration also seeks to establish a long-term maintenance approach, contributing to the preservation of timber architecture and the advancement of sustainable practices. It reflects an ongoing commitment to ensuring that public architecture can be carefully maintained and meaningfully extended over time.
Looking ahead, the Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch will continue to provide a high quality and comfortable reading environment while retaining its original spatial character and design values, sustaining the connection between nature, architecture, and everyday life.
